Actress Mousumi Hamid has been the subject of much speculation recently, following her comments on marital separation. While many assumed she was referring to her marriage, she later clarified that her remarks were meant in a broader context.
Mousumi, who married writer-director Abu Sayeed Rana on January 12 this year, has been sharing joyful moments from her married life on social media, putting any rumours of discord to rest. Now, the actress is turning the spotlight back to her professional life with the announcement of her upcoming film “Noya Manush”, set for release on December 6.
The film, directed by Sohel Rana Boyati, portrays the hardships faced by flood-affected communities living on the chars (river islands). Based on the short story “Bedonar Balu Chore” by AMM Hasanuzzaman, the screenplay has been written by acclaimed playwright Masum Reza. It delves into the lives of the working-class people of the chars, depicting their resilience amid nature’s unpredictability.
In an official statement, director Boyati shared, “The story of ‘Noya Manush’ is one of perseverance and survival. The film, much like its narrative, overcame significant challenges during production. After receiving uncut approval from the censor board, we are excited to bring it to audiences this December.”
He added, “I am grateful to everyone who supported us throughout this journey, and I am hopeful that the film will resonate with viewers.”
The ensemble cast includes Mousumi Hamid, Ashish Khandakar, Jhuna Chowdhury, Rawnak Hasan, Nilufer Wahid, Badruddoza, Smaran Saha, Shikha Karmakar, Mahin Rahman, Mehran Sanjana, Parveen Paru, and child artiste Ushashi, among others.
Produced by Nandanik Films under the G-Series banner, production on the film initially began in October 2022 but was disrupted by Super Cyclone Sitrang, which caused severe damage to the shooting set. Filming resumed in April 2023, and the project was completed by April 12.
The film was submitted for certification on September 18 and received uncut clearance on October 23.
“Noya Manush” is set to release in theatres across Bangladesh on December 6, marking Moushumi Hamid’s much-anticipated return to the silver screen.
